AcuRX

AcuRX is an app that helps anyone who is taking Accutane Medication to efficiently communicate with physicians and remind them of taking their pill daily. It keeps track of pill intake through the schedule, provides effective and efficient physician communication , and simplifies the pill intake reminder process by a pop up remind and having the user to complete a quick and easy survey. Accutane is a pill that people who suffers Acne can take that will provides them with clear skin.

The Problem

Design a mobile app solution to remind Accutane users to take this pill every day as it is mandatory to keep the cycle effective

The Journey

Problem analysis
Brainstorming
StoryBoard
High-fidelity prototypes
Validation

The Outcome

The outcome was a prototype/presentation explaining my design decisions and my design process.

Research

I began the project by conducting semi-structured interviews with  Accutane patients to understand side effects and needs.

PAIN POINT

From my research, I mainly realized that our interviewees:
- Can’t keep track of Pill intake
- Get stressed/panics when forgetting to take medication
- Find it difficult when they can not reach out to physicians quickly for a response or answer to calm them down.

SYNTHESIS

With my research learnings, I created 1 persona that embodied the archetypes of user group. I then did an empathy map to understand her thoughts and feelings when forgetting to take pill. From this, I was able to temporally visualize Lauren's areas of frustrations and create a focal point on the problem space.

DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

Using the research and synthesis as a guideline, I summarized my findings with a problem statement for my user group:

Identified a list of design requirements to address the problem statement. Most notably, the solution needs to:

From my research, I mainly realized that our interviewees:
- Accutane users need simple Design with dark Color Text for eye sensitivity due to side effects when using Accutane.
- Popup Reminder with quick questions to see if user took pills on due date
-Chat room with physicians to communicate effectively and efficiently when needed

IDEATION

With the design requirements in mind, I began to ideate on potential solutions through sketches and storyboards.

- Popup Reminder with quick questions to see if user took pills on due date
-Chat room with physicians to communicate effectively and efficiently when needed

I bucketed the design requirements as feature components on the information architecture (IA) to form the backbone of our app.

created prototypes based on the IA to test the general usability and weed out confusing elements and add the features to achieve user needs in UI

Reflection

In terms of the design process, I learned that I shouldn’t get caught up in the aesthetic details during the ideation and prototyping phase. It is important to quickly and iteratively test the usability and flow of interaction, correct any issues, only then to move on to the aesthetics at the end.
- Fully understanding the project scope in the beginning is very important.
- Probably should have made a small brainstorming session before starting the project just to discover alternative possibilities with lower effort and higher impact.
