In 2014, the Houthi militia took over Yemen’s capital, enforcing laws against women. In the first half of the film, Salma (name changed for safety) secretly records her day on her phone camera, moving through a heavily surveilled neighbourhood from her home toward the graveyard where her parents rest. Interwoven with her journey are recorded phone conversations between Salma and a “ghost journalist” — a writer reflecting on the struggles facing Yemeni women.
